22nd International Conference
on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia

Vienna, Austria

Sustainability

For the International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia (MUM’23), we aim to organize the event in accordance with the criteria of the Austrian Ecolabel for Green Meetings and Events. We are taking many visible and invisible actions to achieve this and ask you to do your part.

Traveling and Accommodation

You can probably make the biggest contribution by traveling sustainably by train or night train. But even if you have to travel by plane, you can still contribute to a more sustainable conference. Choose one of the eco-friendly certified hotels, use public transportation, and discover Vienna's nearby sights and nightlife on foot.

Stay in Vienna

During your stay in the city, primarily use reusable and recyclable packaging wherever possible and avoid disposable ones. If waste cannot be avoided, please dispose of it in the appropriate bins. We also ask you to separate waste carefully at our event. In order to enable recycling and reuse of the lanyard, please return your badge after the event - we will offer a return option for this.

Conference Menu

Only vegetarian and vegan meals are offered at the event. Many of the ingredients are seasonal, regional, organic, and in some cases even fairtrade. Tap water is offered instead of still mineral water, as Vienna's tap water is of excellent drinking quality. If you prefer sparkling water, this is offered in refillable bottles. If you have any questions about food and drinks, please ask the caterer directly at the event. When the selected Austrian dishes have made you curious, you can not only experience an immaterial UNESCO cultural heritage as part of the social event and dinner in a Viennese "Heuriger", but also try other, even meat-based dishes such as the famous "Wiener Schnitzel".

Ticket for Public Transport

Vienna offers its visitors a dense network of different types of public transportation with frequent departures. In the context of the conference, the Wiener Linien, with the largest transport network of subways, trams, and busses in Austria, are of particular relevance. Because of a technical changeover on the company, the announced discount for congresses, unfortunately, cannot be offered until further notice from December 1st. Nevertheless, you can easily and effectively save money by purchasing a "7 days VIENNA" ticket for 17.10 € instead of multiple single-day tickets for 5.80 € or even single-direction tickets. Please note that this ticket offers you more time flexibility than the "72-hours VIENNA" ticket, which costs the same 17.10 €. An overview of the diverse ticket options is available in the online shop of Wiener Linien. However, if you only want to make a few rides, you can also buy single tickets at the ticket machines that are located at the subway and tram stations or inside the trams and busses.

CO2 Compensation

The compensation of CO2 is still subject of public debate. Despite all the (legitimate) criticism, suitable and certified providers can be another means of reducing the impact of unavoidable traveling by plane, for example. We therefore encourage all participants to consider this option, but also to be aware of the rebound effect. In the following, we list a couple of providers that are recommended by the Vienna Convention Bureau:
