MUM 2026, the 25th International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia
Glasgow, United Kingdom, December 1-4, 2026
MUM is an interdisciplinary forum for presenting the advances in research of mobile and ubiquitous multimedia systems, applications, and services. At MUM, academics and practitioners gather to discuss challenges and achievements in this field from diverse perspectives, such as interaction techniques, user research, system development, software solutions, and devices. This year's edition aims to continue the tradition of innovation and excellence in research established by previous MUM conferences.
The MUM Posters and Demos track provides an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to share early-stage, ongoing, or experimental work with the MUM community in an interactive setting. We welcome contributions presented as posters (summarising work in progress, preliminary findings, novel research directions, or provoking position statements) or demos (showcasing working systems, prototypes, applications, or research projects). Demos may be accompanied by a poster as part of the demo setup, in which case the submission should describe this in the Presentation section below. Submissions may describe preliminary research results that have not yet been fully designed, implemented, or tested but show great promise; summarise small-scale studies; introduce novel, challenging, or provoking research directions; or present interactive artefacts that attendees can engage with hands-on. MUM maintains an open and experimental attitude: whether you have built a mobile app, designed a new device, created an interactive system, developed innovative software, or have early findings you'd like to discuss, we want to see your work, play with it, and talk about it.
TOPICS
Topics of interest are those defined for the main paper conference track. They include, but are not limited to:
- Prototypes and systems tackling relevant technical challenges
- Novel applications for mobile and ubiquitous gaming, learning, entertainment, social networking, and advertising
- Augmented, mixed, and virtual reality systems and applications
- Case studies, field trials, or user experience evaluations of new applications and services
- Context-aware and location-based mobile and ubiquitous services
- Metrics and measures for evaluating and testing mobile and ubiquitous systems
- Privacy and security-related challenges to multimedia systems
- Social implications of mobile and ubiquitous multimedia systems
- Interaction and collaboration with human-centered AI systems
- Tools and development environments for building mobile, wearable, and ubiquitous multimedia systems
- User interfaces, interaction design, and interaction techniques for mobile and ubiquitous systems
- Interaction design for automotive and other modes of transportation
- Fabrication and device prototyping
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Format
Poster submissions should be maximum 3 pages long (excluding references), and should contain an abstract of maximum 150 words, that clearly states the poster's contribution to the field. The submission should be prepared as a PDF file, in ACM single-column manuscript format, using either Word or LaTeX ACM Primary Article Templates. If LaTeX is used, single-column mode should be configured by using \documentclass[manuscript,review,anonymous]{acmart} as document class setting.
Content
Regardless of presentation format, the body of the submission should clearly convey:
- Contribution. The technical, empirical, or conceptual content of the work, and any claims or conclusions that follow.
- Relevance. Why this work is of interest to the MUM community, highlighting its novelty.
Additionally, if you are submitting a Demo:
your paper should describe how the work will be experienced at the conference — that is, what attendees will see, do, or interact with at the demo session. The submission should describe the interactive experience in enough detail that a reviewer can understand the demo without seeing it run. This includes what attendees will be able to do, what the system shows or responds with, the duration and flow of a typical interaction, and any hardware, software, or environmental setup required (e.g., displays, sensors, networking, lighting, physical space). This section is especially important, as it replaces the previously mandatory accompanying video. Submissions that ask for a demo slot but do not adequately describe the demo experience may be desk rejected or recommended for the poster format only.
Hardware Requirements (Demo Submissions)
Demo submissions must include a list of hardware that authors plan to bring to the venue and any hardware they would request from the organisers. This may be included as a one-page appendix in the main PDF (which does not count toward the 3-page limit) or submitted as a separate .pdf or .txt file via EasyChair.
Optional Video
Authors may submit an optional video (up to 3 minutes) to support their submission. Videos are no longer mandatory for demo submissions, but they remain a valuable way to convey interactive experiences and we encourage them where they materially help reviewers understand the work. Videos accompanying accepted submissions will be published in the ACM Digital Library as additional material. To ensure videos can be viewed by all reviewers, authors should preferably use 720p or 1080p resolution, H.264 encoding, and the MP4 file format. To accommodate the upload limits of EasyChair (max. 50 MB per file), the bit rate of videos can be lowered.
Anonymization
Submissions will undergo a single-blind review process and should include author names and affiliations on the submission. They must be original work and should not have been previously published or be concurrently under submission elsewhere.
Submission and Follow-Up Steps if Accepted
Poster papers must be submitted via EasyChair. They will undergo a rigorous review process managed by the poster and demo chairs. The authors of accepted submissions will receive instructions about the format requirements for posters and demos at the venue. Authors are expected to bring their posters and demo materials to the conference site and to be present throughout the relevant sessions.
Final camera-ready versions of accepted submissions must be accompanied by a signed copyright form. Accepted submissions will appear in the Proceedings of the International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia, available in the ACM Digital Library, where they will be accessible to thousands of researchers and practitioners worldwide.
Use of Generative AI
Authors must adhere to the ACM Policy on Authorship regarding the use of generative AI in submissions. Authors are responsible for all content produced (including plagiarism, misrepresentation, or fabrication) by these tools and must disclose their use.
