MUM 2026, the 25th International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia

As part of the International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia (MUM), we will hold a joint seminar for PhD students from various sub-disciplines related to mobile media, ubiquitous computing, and human-computer interaction (HCI). The Doctoral Consortium (DC) will take place on-site on Tuesday, December 1, 2026, before the main conference.
The DC will provide an opportunity for a small group of PhD students to meet and discuss their research with each other and with a panel of experienced researchers in an informal and interactive setting. Applications are welcome from current PhD students working in any area relevant to the MUM community, regardless of their stage of study. Depending on their stage, students may receive feedback on narrowing down their research topic, methodological and technical aspects of their ongoing work, or the framing and presentation of their findings in their thesis.
To apply for participation in the DC, you are asked to submit a 2–4-page paper in single-column format using the following Word or Latex templates. The paper should describe the context and motivation of your PhD research, the problem and aims driving your research, and your research objectives, hypotheses, and/or research questions. It should also describe and explain your proposed research approach and methods, and include a discussion of any results you may already have. Please also provide information about the context of your PhD, including the university programme in which you are conducting your PhD, the current status of your PhD, the expected completion date, and any other relevant information about your PhD.
Submissions will not be peer-reviewed. Students will be selected for participation based on who would benefit most from the DC. Accepted students will be asked to prepare a presentation on their PhD research and a poster, which will be included in the MUM 2026 poster track. Submissions must be submitted via EasyChair. For accepted DC submissions, authors can choose whether they would like their submission to be included in the conference proceedings. The PhD student should be the solo author of the submission.
Submission Guidelines
Your submission should be 2-4 pages. Please use the template and include the following:
- Your name, Advisor(s) name(s), and the university where you are conducting your doctoral work. Submissions should NOT be anonymous.
- Your current year of study and projected completion date, along with information about your PhD programme, including its expected duration and whether you are studying part-time or under any other arrangements.
Please address the following questions, where applicable to your research:
- What problem are you addressing, why is it important, and what do you aim to find out?
- What steps do you plan to take, what methods do you use, and how will you evaluate your results?
- Which research papers in prior art are most closely related to your work, and how does your research differ?
- What have you found out so far, and what are the next steps?
- What is still missing? Where would you benefit from feedback or support? Where would you like to collaborate if you seek collaboration for your PhD?
