Sightseeing in Enna
Enna is in the centre of Sicily and a privileged position: it stands almost a thousand metres high, and from its position, on a clear day, you can embrace nearly the whole island at a glance. Dominating this panorama to the east is the presence of Etna, with all its majestic and imposing presence. Despite its status as a highland town, Enna is straightforward to reach as the motorway (A19) linking the two major Sicilian cities of Palermo and Catania passes through Enna, making communication between these urban systems very easy. The trip from the nearest and most connected airport (Catania-Fontanarossa "Vincenzo Bellini") takes one hour by car and public transportation. Moreover, it is well connected to the other centres of inland Sicily, making it a pole of interaction between the inland areas of central and eastern Sicily.
The city is divided into two parts: Enna Alta and Enna Bassa. The first corresponds to the historical centre about 900 metres above sea level. In contrast, the second one, a little lower than the first one and where the University is located, constitutes the urban expansion of Enna that has developed since the 1950s.
The upper town offers many monuments consisting of valuable civil and religious buildings, including the Castello di Lombardia, a fortification located at the eastern end of the historic centre and whose towers dominate the valleys surrounding the town. These valleys are places of intense agricultural production of excellent quality that also arrive on the tables of the Enna inhabitants and their guests, delighted by the goodness of the raw materials. The calm pace of the city, the mountain air and the high standard of university services make the academic and living experience at Enna unique.
Nearest Places of Interest: Piazza Armerina and Agrigento
Thirty kilometres and 40 minutes away from Enna, there is Piazza Armerina, a town which is the site of the Villa Romana del Casale, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1997. The Villa Romana del Casale is a Roman exploitation of the countryside, the centre of the large estate upon which the rural economy of the Western Empire was based. The villa is one of the most luxurious of its kind. It is especially noteworthy for the richness and quality of the mosaics which decorate walls and floors of almost every room. They are the finest mosaics in situ anywhere in the Roman world.

Agrigento is world-famous for the Valle dei Templi (Valley of the Temples), an archaeological site that is one of the most outstanding examples of ancient Greek art and architecture of Magna Graecia, and one of the main attractions of Sicily. The term "valley" is a misnomer, as the site is located on a ridge outside the town of Agrigento. Since 1997, the entire area has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The archaeological and landscape park of the Valle dei Templi, with its 1300 hectares, is the largest and most significant archaeological park in Europe and the Mediterranean basin. The valley is 80 km and 1 hour away from Enna.
